SeeWell is a mobile-based digital visual acuity screening application designed to facilitate structured, community-level vision screening through trained screening operators. The application enables standardized measurement of distance and near visual acuity using smartphones and tablets, and supports large-scale early detection of visual impairment in community and outreach settings.
This Privacy Policy describes how SeeWell collects, uses, stores, protects, and manages the personal information of all individuals who interact with the application whether as screening operators or as individuals undergoing vision screening. It also explains the technical and organizational safeguards implemented to ensure data protection, including specific measures applied to sensitive identity information.
By using or interacting with the SeeWell application, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms of this Privacy Policy. This policy applies to all users of the SeeWell platform.
Important Notice All data collected through the SeeWell application is used exclusively for vision screening and clinical referral purposes. No data is used for advertising, commercial profiling, or any purpose unrelated to preventive eye care.
SeeWell collects two categories of personal information depending on the role of the individual interacting with the application.
Individuals registered to conduct screenings on behalf of the programme provide the following information at the time of account registration:
• Full name
• Email address
• Mobile number
• Residential or operational address
• Gender
• Operator identification credentials (used exclusively for authentication and account verification)
All operator accounts are subject to administrative verification and approval by authorized backend personnel before access to the screening platform is granted. Operator credentials are validated against the registration details submitted at the time of enrolment.
The following demographic and clinical information is collected from individuals who undergo vision screening through the SeeWell application:
• Full name
• Mobile number
• Age
• Father’s name
• Residential address
• Gender
• Employment status
• Occupation
• Current spectacle use (whether the individual wears spectacles)
• Current spectacle prescription: left eye power and right eye power (if applicable)
• Aadhaar number (collected solely for identity verification purposes - see Section 5.3 for encryption details)
• Distance visual acuity result (logMAR)
• Near visual acuity result (logMAR)
The demographic and clinical details collected are necessary to ensure clinically comprehensive screening, enable accurate referral, and support continuity of care. These details allow screening personnel and referral facilities to triage individuals appropriately based on their age, refractive history, occupational requirements, and visual acuity outcomes.
All personal data collected through the SeeWell application is processed strictly for the following purposes:
• To conduct standardized visual acuity measurements and maintain an accurate record of screening outcomes for each individual. Vision Screening and Clinical Assessment:
• Demographic details including age, occupation, spectacle history, and refractive data are essential to enable meaningful clinical referral. This information allows referral facilities to prioritize individuals, contextualize their vision results, and provide appropriate follow-up care. Without this data, the value of community-level screening as a gateway to clinical intervention would be substantially diminished. Clinically Comprehensive Referral:
• To communicate visual acuity screening results to the screened individual via SMS to their registered mobile number, based on their stated preference. Result Communication:
• To generate anonymized, aggregate statistical reports for public health programme evaluation and reporting purposes. Programme Monitoring and Reporting:
• Aadhaar numbers are collected solely to verify the identity of screened individuals and prevent duplicate records. Aadhaar data is never used for any purpose other than identity deduplication. Identity Verification:
• To verify, approve, and manage the credentials of screening operators accessing the platform. Operator Account Management:
• To ensure the security, reliability, and proper functioning of the SeeWell screening platform. Platform Integrity:
We do not use any personal information for marketing, advertising, commercial profiling, or any purpose unrelated to vision screening and public eye health.
SeeWell is committed to strict data confidentiality. Personal information is handled as follows:
• Visual acuity results are communicated directly to the screened individual through an SMS sent to their registered mobile number, subject to their stated communication preference. Screening Results via SMS:
• Operators conducting screenings through the SeeWell platform are not permitted to access, view, retrieve, or download the personal data or individual screening results of any person they have screened. Operators may only view anonymized aggregate statistics relevant to their own screening activity. Screening Operators:
• Authorized backend administrators responsible for platform oversight and quality assurance may access personal data strictly on a need-to-know basis, solely for the purposes of account verification, data integrity checks, and programme management. All such personnel are bound by confidentiality obligations. Administrative Personnel:
• Where an individual’s screening result indicates a need for further clinical evaluation, relevant screening data (including demographic details necessary for contextualized clinical review) may be shared with designated referral facilities as part of the programme’s referral pathway, with the individual’s awareness. Clinical Referral Facilities:
• Personal data is not sold, rented, or disclosed to any third party for commercial purposes. Data may be shared with authorized public health authorities only where required by applicable law or for legitimate public health programme reporting, in anonymized or aggregated form wherever possible. Third-Party Sharing:
The SeeWell application is designed with a privacy-by-default architecture. No personal data is permanently stored on the device used to conduct screenings. Any data processed locally on the device during an active screening session is handled ephemerally - it exists only for the duration of the session and is not retained on the device after the session concludes.
Personal data collected during screening sessions is transmitted to and stored securely on protected servers. The following retention rules apply:
• All personal data is automatically and permanently deleted 90 days from the date of collection.
• After this retention period, no personally identifiable information is retained in any form.
• Anonymized and aggregated statistical data, which contains no personally identifiable information, may be retained beyond the 90-day period for programme evaluation and public health reporting purposes.
Given the sensitivity of Aadhaar numbers as a national identity credential, SeeWell applies a specific and dedicated encryption protocol for all Aadhaar data:
Aadhaar Encryption Protocol All Aadhaar numbers collected through the SeeWell application are encrypted exclusively using the SHA-256 (Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit) cryptographic hashing algorithm prior to storage. The original Aadhaar number is never stored in plain text at any point - on the device, in transit, or on the server. Only the irreversible SHA-256 hash value is retained, solely for the purpose of identity deduplication. This ensures that the original Aadhaar number cannot be reconstructed or retrieved from stored data.
This approach ensures compliance with applicable identity data protection norms and provides a strong technical guarantee that Aadhaar numbers cannot be accessed, extracted, or misused even in the event of an unauthorized access attempt.
To protect data integrity and prevent unauthorized concurrent access, each operator account is restricted to use on a single registered device at any given time. Simultaneous login from multiple devices is technically prohibited by the platform. Attempts to log in from a second device while an active session exists will be rejected.
In addition to the Aadhaar-specific encryption described above, the following technical and organizational security measures are implemented across the SeeWell platform:
• Secure authentication protocols for all operator logins
• Backend administrative verification and approval of all operator accounts prior to activation
• Role-based access controls restricting data visibility on a strict need-to-know basis
• Automatic deletion of all personal data after the 90-day retention period
• Prohibition of local persistent data storage on screening devices
• Data transmission over encrypted channels
While all reasonable technical and organizational measures are taken to protect personal information, no digital system can provide an absolute guarantee against all possible security threats. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to individuals’ rights or freedoms, prompt remedial action will be taken in accordance with applicable law.
The SeeWell platform incorporates a layered access control architecture to ensure that personal data is accessible only to those with a legitimate and verified need:
• Screening operators must register using their designated identification credentials and a self-created password. All registrations are reviewed and must be explicitly approved by authorized administrative personnel before the account is activated. Unapproved accounts cannot access the screening platform. Operator Registration and Approval:
• Screening operators cannot access, view, search, export, or retrieve the personal data or individual results of any individual screened through the platform. This restriction is enforced at the application level and cannot be bypassed. No Access to Subject Data:
• Operators are permitted to view only anonymized aggregate statistics pertaining to the volume and outcomes of screenings conducted through their account. No individually identifiable information is accessible to operators at any time. Statistics Only:
• Each operator account may be active on only one device at a time. Concurrent multi-device sessions are not permitted. Single-Session Enforcement:
The breadth of demographic and personal information collected through SeeWell, including occupational status, father’s name, spectacle history, and refractive details, reflects the clinical requirements of a comprehensive community vision screening programme rather than administrative convenience.
Specifically:
• Age and refractive data are essential for distinguishing age-related conditions such as presbyopia from pathological refractive error, and for calibrating referral urgency.
• Occupation and employment status inform the functional significance of any detected visual impairment and help prioritize referral for individuals whose livelihood depends on their vision.
• Spectacle use and prescription history enable screeners and referral clinicians to contextualize acuity results relative to the individual’s current correction, avoiding misclassification of corrected versus uncorrected acuity.
• Father’s name and address facilitate accurate identification and follow-up contact in settings where mobile numbers may be shared or changed.
The collection of these details is proportionate to the clinical purpose of the programme and is consistent with established practices in community-level ophthalmic screening and referral.
Individuals whose personal information is collected through the SeeWell application have the following rights under applicable data protection law, subject to any limitations prescribed by law:
• You may request confirmation of whether personal data concerning you is being processed, and if so, obtain a copy of that data. Right to Access:
• You may request correction of personal data that is inaccurate or incomplete. Right to Correction:
• You may contact us and request deletion of your personal data at any time prior to the automatic 90-day deletion. Requests will be processed in accordance with applicable law.
Right to Deletion:
• Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing. Right to Withdraw Consent:
• If you believe your data has been handled in a manner inconsistent with this Privacy Policy or applicable law, you have the right to raise a grievance with the data controller or the applicable regulatory authority. Right to Grievance Redressal:
To exercise any of the above rights, please contact the SeeWell Data Privacy Team using the details provided in Section 11.
Prior to the collection of any personal information, informed consent is obtained from the individual being screened. Consent is sought before the commencement of screening and covers:
• The collection of demographic and clinical information as described in Section 2.2
• The collection and SHA-256 hashing of Aadhaar number for identity verification
• The use of collected data for screening, referral, and anonymized programme reporting
• The communication of screening results via SMS to the registered mobile number
Individuals have the right to decline consent, in which case their screening data will not be collected or retained.
For individuals below the age of 18, informed consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian prior to data collection. Screening operators are responsible for ensuring appropriate consent procedures are followed in all cases.
The SeeWell application is designed for use in community health programmes that may include individuals of all ages. Where individuals below the age of 18 are screened, parental or guardian consent is mandatory. Special care is taken to ensure that the data of minors is handled with appropriate sensitivity and is not retained beyond the standard 90-day deletion period.

Continued use of the SeeWell application following notification of any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

All data collection and processing is conducted in accordance with the principles of purpose limitation, data minimisation, storage limitation, and security as outlined herein.

திரையிடலின் போது சேகரிக்கப்படும் தகவல்கள் பாதுகாப்பான சேவையகங்களில் சேமிக்கப்படும்:
● சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட அனைத்து தனிப்பட்ட தகவல்களும் 90 நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு தானாகவும் நிரந்தரமாகவும் நீக்கப்படும்.
● 90 நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு எந்த அடையாளம் காணக்கூடிய தனிப்பட்ட தகவலும் சேமித்து வைக்கப்படாது.
● அடையாளம் தெரியாத ஒருங்கிணைந்த புள்ளிவிவரத் தரவுகள் மட்டும் திட்ட மதிப்பீட்டிற்காக பாதுகாக்கப்படலாம்.
ஆதார் எண் ஒரு முக்கியமான அடையாளத் தகவலாக இருப்பதால், அதற்கென தனிப்பட்ட பாதுகாப்பு நடைமுறைகள் பின்பற்றப்படுகின்றன:

சேகரிக்கப்படும் தகவல்கள் நிர்வாக வசதிக்காக அல்ல; மருத்துவ ரீதியாக பொருத்தமான பரிந்துரைகளை வழங்குவதற்காகவே. உதாரணமாக:
● வயது மற்றும் கண் பவர் தகவல்கள் வயதுசார்ந்த பார்வைக் குறைபாடுகளை கண்டறிய உதவுகின்றன.
● தொழில் தொடர்பான தகவல்கள் பார்வைக் குறைபாட்டின் தாக்கத்தை மதிப்பிட உதவுகின்றன.
● கண்ணாடி பயன்பாடு மற்றும் பவர் தகவல்கள் துல்லியமான மதிப்பீட்டிற்கு உதவுகின்றன.

18 வயதிற்குக் குறைவானவர்களுக்கு பெற்றோர் அல்லது சட்டபூர்வ பாதுகாவலரின் ஒப்புதல் அவசியமாகும்.
18 வயதிற்குக் குறைவானவர்களின் தகவல்கள் சிறப்பு கவனத்துடன் கையாளப்படும். பெற்றோர் அல்லது பாதுகாவலரின் ஒப்புதல் இல்லாமல் எந்த தகவலும் சேகரிக்கப்படாது.
